Function
As an Energy & Risk Analyst at Aluminium Duffel, your ambition is to safeguard product margins against market volatility, including energy (Belpex, TTF), aluminum (LME), and currency risks (USD). You play a crucial role in managing our energy, currency, and aluminum positions while protecting our sales margins. You are responsible for monitoring and executing our energy and risk policy and strategy. You report, develop, and perform periodic reports to measure and monitor the department's objectives and results. You provide support for both internal and external audits. Energy, aluminum, and exchange rates are major cost components in our organization that must be managed and hedged. Therefore, you manage the various flows that lead to building these positions, including evaluating the impact on our short- and long-term sales obligations.
Within our 'automotive' division, these contracts are concluded for 5 to 7 years, while for 'industrial', these contracts are for 1 year or shorter. You execute cost efficiency by minimizing energy costs and reducing risks (taking or paying liabilities, covering losses). You also monitor the various hedge books (electricity, gas, aluminum, and FX - at the customer level or even per nomination) and provide data to involved internal stakeholders. You monitor credit risk and problem limits with the different financial partners (brokers, banks, suppliers). Lastly, within the 'Energy' component, you are also responsible for providing support in evaluating and responding to offers and negotiating and finalizing energy-related projects (renewable energy agreements, EFET framework contracts, supply contracts, etc.).
For this, you actively conduct market research into energy-related developments through supplier visits, trade fairs, the internet, personal networks, etc. You analyze daily, weekly, and monthly reports to identify deviations between what is being covered and, if necessary, correct our risk position, taking into account the financial impact and in accordance with the Risk Policy. You therefore also act as a business partner for various internal stakeholders, such as Risk, Sales, Metal Procurement, Finance, etc., and maintain external contacts with brokers, banks, suppliers, and customers. Close collaboration with Sales & Finance is important to understand the impact of market developments and translate it into effective pricing strategies in conjunction with an external consultant. You proactively pursue opportunities related to cost improvements and manage direct metal or financial transactions with internal and external customers.
As a business partner, you also provide support in the evaluation of and response to offers, negotiations, and the finalization of risk-related projects (broker contracts, energy projects, automation, and digitization, etc.). You utilize advanced tools, such as FIS, to support and optimize the risk management process. With FIS as the central hub for data and analysis of hedges, you are able to manage various aspects of the risk management process in a structured and efficient manner, including monitoring positions, evaluating risks, and taking appropriate actions. You ensure the timely and accurate submission of all statutory reports to relevant authorities and entities. This includes carefully adhering to all regulations regarding financial transactions, government support/subsidies, and risk management. In addition to your own responsibilities related to Energy and Risk, you are also a backup for your colleague.
In summary, in this role you will focus on the following activities:
• Continuous improvement: You will continue to improve our reports and develop additional tools to strengthen our position. In other words, you provide valuable advice to safeguard our organization's margins.
• Cost savings and risk reduction: You will analyze and report daily, weekly, and monthly on positions and results.
• Relationship management: You will enhance and build key internal and external partnerships. In other words, you act as a bridge builder. Together with 2 other colleagues, you will be part of the Finance team, under the leadership of the senior risk, treasury & energy manager.
